Bags of Love for Liams Six Dollar Club

by The Gardner Team on April 5, 2012

It’s that time again, the second annual Liam’s $6 Club school wide fundraiser at Edy Ridge Elementary School.  All the proceeds raised go towards helping kids at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.  Last year, I wrote about my boys and their idea to hold a bake sale in honor of their friend Liam to raise money for his campaign.

After much success getting their baked goods out there, they raised around $500 dollars and in the process burnt out the “As Seen on TV” Brownie Baking Pan (that is a good thing) that Mason so excitedly received from Santa that Christmas.  It was fun experience for our boys to do something together for such a great friend and cause – many proud mamma moments and my house smelled wonderful with all that baking going on the the background!

This year turned out a bit different. While we were convinced that they’d continue the tradition of baking they surprised us when they put the brakes on right before launch!  Like typical kids they keep us on their toes and are full of endless ideas.  There was one thing for sure, both the boys decided they wanted to do something fresh and new… But the question was, what??

Our 1st grader Gavon said; “I want it to be in a bag, with stickers like the way we did it last year.”  Okay I said.  So “What do you plan to have in the bags?”  I asked.  Mason knew right away, “it needs to be something sweet!” he said with a big smile — my boys seem to always get excited when sugar is involved!  One thing that stayed with us and has had some inspiration on both campaigns is that one of Liam’s favorite songs from Mary Poppins is “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down…” he actually sang a bit of that on a clip we watched when he was in the hospital.

Imagining with a bit of worry they’d say something like let’s make pies because they’re round like the $6 Club logo, I was delighted when Mason continued thinking and asked, “what is Liam’s favorite Candy?” not sure of the answer myself, we had to do our homework so I contacted my friend Laura, Liam’s mom and found out it was Skittles or Sour Patch Kids.  Then there was the light bulb moment!

It seemed so clear you could almost see the glowing bulb right over Mason’s head!  The boys were going to bundle one of Liams FAVORITE candies with one of each of their favorite candies!  Mason’s being a Nestle Crunch Bar and Gavon’s, a KitKat Bar.  BINGO!  Like their previous campaign last year, “Baked with Love for Liam“, they created a sign they both colored and had me turn them into labels for the lunch sacks that magically became extra special goodie bags they call “Bag of Love for Liam!”

I was very proud of them for their commitment towards doing something that’s meaningful to them.  As they call it, “doing our part with heart!”  They’d successfully branched out with a fresh campaign that was a spin off of the year before, and had something NEW to offer. They boys were happy and ready to begin their journey to raise money for the Club!

In true $6 Club fashion, you can purchase one of these “Bags of Love for Liam” for just $6!  Each comes complete with a bundle of sugar in the form of three full sized candy bars, each a favorite to these three sweet boys.

They are available for sale at Sweet Story Bakery in Old Town Sherwood and Copper Creek Mercantile Sherwood Feed Store off 99w during business hours.  If you’d like to place a special bulk order for a party, event or client giveaways please email or call me directly and we will make that happen!

Thank you in advance for your support!

I can be reached at amber@gardnerteam.net – by phone at 971-832-1235 or on facebook at www.facebook.com/gardnerteam

Sincerely,

Amber Gardner and our boys!
