Fall means time for cozy and warm ideas around the home… And what comes to mind?  Smells of the seasons, cozy blankets and pillows and of course comfort food!

How many of you have heard of a Bean Pot?  Well let me tell you, this is the best way to prepare fast and easy meals.  With long work days, busy family schedules and football season – and we know how that goes especially here in Sherwood (home to the 5A State Champions) breaking out the crock-pot can be a life saver for many… But if you haven’t heard of or don’t already own a Bean Pot it’s time you do.  They not only make a beautiful presentation on the counter in your kitchen or dining room table in your home, they’re fantastic to have and cook with.

To get you cookin’ here’s a few GREAT recipes for your Bean Pot

Beer Bread
3 cups of Self Rising Flour
1/4 cup of sugar
1 can of beer

Mix all the ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 30 – 40 min. depending on size of pan or bowl using. This is great to bake in the Celebrating Home Bean Pot.

Taco Soup (Tonya’s Favorite)

1 Lb ground beef, cooked & drained

1 – 28 oz can kidney beans*

1 – 28 oz can diced tomatoes*

1 -14 oz can corn * (*DO NOT drain liquid)

Add all ingredients into the bean pot and cover.

Add 1-2 packets of taco seasoning OR 1 pkg Celebrating Home Southwestern Chipotle dip mix and stir.

Cook in microwave for 20 minutes.

Serve with sour cream, cheese and corn chips.

Chicken Stew

Place chicken breast in a Bean Pot.

Add 1 can chicken broth,

1 Can Cream of chicken and 1

pkg Onion Soup Mix.

Cook at 250 for at least 4 hours. Add string beans and pour over angel hair pasta.

Bachelors Roast

Place roast (about 3 lbs.) in Bean Pot

Pour 1 can of Coke

Spread 2 cups of catchup on top

Cover with the lid.

Cook for about 30 minutes per pound.

Optional: Add onions and pressed garlic.

What a beautiful summer day in Sherwood!  While I was out & about passing out Sherwood Community Garage Sale reminders with my crew in a few Sherwood neighborhoods today, I was welcomed by the smiling faces of friendly folks enjoying the sunny day.  Many were outside cleaning up their yards and mowing their lawns.  It’s almost as if all of Sherwood smelled of fresh cut grass today as I went from one Renaissance neighborhood to the next.  All the Sherwood homes are looking beautiful with bright green lawns and bursts of color cascading across the landscapes.

As your real estate resource, we like to provide a blend of information that’s helpful.  As the weather gets warmer here in Sherwood and the SW Portland Metro area, we’ll be spending more time working on our landscaping.  With that, we found some helpful tips to help you maintain that beautiful green lawn all summer long ~ tips courtesy of the Weed Man.

Get a Greener Lawn with These Lawn Care Tips

Lawn Care Tip 1 – One-Third Rule
Removing more than 1/3 of the grass blade will stress out your lawn. If you cut or take out too much of the grass blade, your lawn will have a difficult time thriving and will instead look burnt out.

Lawn Care Tip 2 – Highest Acceptable Height
When you have long grass blades, your roots will grow deeper. Grass that has deeper roots will withstand drought and oppose pests and diseases.

Lawn Care Tip 3 – Sharp Mower Blades
Your lawn’s appearance is enhanced by sharp mower blades. Cleaner cuts of grass are provided by sharp blades. Grass will be able to recover from mowing faster when it is cut by sharp blades.

Lawn Care Tip 4 – Apply Fertilizer
Use fertilizer to get a healthy, green lawn. You have to apply fertilizer at the right time to get the best results.

Lawn Care Tip 5 – Deal with Weeds, Insects and Diseases
Brown circles or dry areas around your lawn means that you might have a problem. As problems travel under the soil, big circles called brownouts caused by fungal disease or insects leave a line of traceable dead grass. Your landscape/lawn care professional can help identify the exact problem and recommend treatment.

Lawn Care Tip 6 – Deep Watering
Deep (rather than shallow) lawn watering is encouraged to grow deeper roots. One inch of water to 12 inches of soil is the preferred ratio for watering actively growing grass. Watering your lawn every three days is better than watering a few minutes every day.

Lawn Care Tip 7 – Check Your Irrigation System
For proper turf watering, test your irrigation system. One suggestion is to place five straight-sided pans around your lawn. When you turn your irrigation system on, take note of how long it takes for one inch of water to accumulate. Check to see if all the pans get the same amount of water. You might need to adjust the amount or distance of your lawn’s sprinkler heads.
